Online language learning programs reach out to executives

With global trade on the upswing and international communication a given, executive’s careers can be boosted by knowledge of one or more foreign languages.

Mastery of a foreign language can make an executive’s resume stand out from another. As corporate demand for foreign language speakers increases, a number of US businesses are offering language learning solutions for businesspeople. A recent Las Vegas Business Press article by Bob Shemeligian reports on this phenomenon and focuses on an online language tutoring company, InterLangua.

InterLangua offers face-to-face tutoring over the Internet, using webcam video that is totally synchronized with the voices. For the moment, the company mainly teaches Mandarin Chinese and Spanish.

Shemeligian’s article does point out, however, that Mandarin Chinese is extremely hard to master – or even speak at all. “”Different words have more than one meaning and… we have more than 50,000 characters in our alphabet,” explains article interviewee Helen Hsueh, CEO of the Las Vegas Chinese Daily News.

In fact, Mandarin Chinese ranks as one of the world’s five most difficult languages to learn. So even with the most modern technology, don’t expect your employees to be “picking up” Chinese in the near future. In fact, your company may well need the services of a qualified language translation agency to help you do business in the global market. Language Translation Inc. provides translation, interpretation and localization services in more than 40 languages. “Let us show you how good translation should be.”
